Effective January 1, 2009 the Georgia state income tax credit program provides owners of historic homes the opportunity to take up to 30% of the expense to rehabilitate your home as a state tax credit, up to $100,000. That means if you are planning to spend $30,000 rehabilitating your home, you can receive $9,000 in tax credits. Or if you plan on spending $300,000 rehabilitating your home, you can receive $90,000 in tax credits.
As an additional benefit, the State also allows you to freeze your property taxes for 8 years at your home’s pre-rehabilitation assessed value.
